This morning, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia met with prominent Chinese entrepreneurs in Chengdu. Xiang Guangming, Chairman of Weiming Environment Protection, was invited to attend the meeting and delivered remarks.
In recent years, guided by China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Weiming Environment Protection has actively responded to the "Go Global" strategy, expanding its footprint in the new energy materials sector. The company has invested in high-grade nickel matte projects in Indonesia with a total annual production capacity of 130,000 tons of nickel equivalent and a planned investment of approximately US$1.3 billion. As these projects progress steadily, Weiming has strengthened its position in the new energy materials field and deepened ties with the Indonesian government. The close relationship traces back to the 2022 G20 Summit in Bali, where President Joko first met Chairman Xiang and other Chinese entrepreneurs, laying the foundation for enduring collaboration. Recently, Weiming received an invitation from the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, as President Joko’s visit to China for the opening ceremony of the 31st Summer World University Games included dedicated time to engage with leading business figures.
During the meeting, President Joko warmly welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest in high-quality projects in Indonesia, jointly leveraging the country’s resource advantages to drive economic and social development. He emphasized that Weiming Environment Protection is a leading low-carbon environmental protection enterprise in China, noting significant collaboration opportunities in areas such as waste-to-energy and sewage treatment as Indonesia advances its low-carbon and environmental initiatives.
Chairman Xiang Guangming stated that Weiming is honored to invest in new material projects in Indonesia and expressed hope for expanded cooperation in waste and sewage treatment project investment, operation, and R&D of high-end environmental protection and smart equipment for new materials.
